Newbridge to Oxford -Day Four

Today started out like all the others so far...a great big breakfast.  I find it so surprising and wonderful at the same time that after a huge evening meal, we are always looking forward to breakfast!

The scenery this morning too was much like the others, the River Thames widening and boat traffic increasing.  There were fields after fields of meadow and grasses...but as the day wore on, the scenery began to change.

There are signs that the country was becoming less dominant and the cities were beginning to invade. Below you can see the last remaining toll bridge in England, costing 5p to cross in a car.

Imagine that, we managed to find a good pub for lunch.

And we were off again for what we were told would be a 14 mile day.....

Oh, a second pub stop....tea.....  Now that the countryside gives way to more towns, we'll have to be careful that the hike doesn't turn into a pub crawl.

An old Nunnery just on the outskirts of Oxford.

And finally we begin to see Oxford.  The canals of Oxford are filled with beautiful house boats.

 Our group strikes a pose!

A beautiful thatched roof house across from our hotel just outside Oxford in Iffley.

So, as it ends up, today we actually walked 19 miles rather than the anticipated 14 with a step count of just over 40,000!  The last 2 miles felt like 10.

A picture of the Iffley lock, just down the street from our hotel.  The hotel was called the Hawkhouse Hotel in Iffley, which coincidentally, Don and I stayed in when we were in Oxford a few years ago.

A few pictures below of Oxford university as we made are way into town for dinner.  Dinner tonight was at a bustling little Lebanese restaurant on a busy street in Oxford.  The food was great and an interesting change from the pub food of last night.

We arrived back at our hotel around 10, exhausted and ready to crash into bed to rest up for another day along the Thames tomorrow.  Our feet are in good shape, everyone is healthy and we are anticipating our first spot of rain tomorrow morning . . . we'll see!
